WORLD LUNG DAY

25th september-World Lung Day is a day for lung health advocacy and action. An opportunity for us all to unite and promote better Lung health globally. The theme for World Lung Day,2020 is respiratory infections. Therefore,Let’s know about respiratory infections,rehabilitation and prevention.

Respiratory infection may be of two types:

– Upper Respiratory Infection
– Lower Respiratory Infection

Symptoms:-
• Cough
• Breathing difficulties
• Green sputum
• breathlessness
• Fever,Feeling ill and weight loss

# Lower Respiratory Infection:

It includes respiratory infections like pneumonia,Tuberculosis and Covid -19.

• Pneumonia:-
Every minute 2 children die from pneumonia. Almost all deaths occur in low and middle income countries.80% deaths are in children under 2 years and adults above 65 years.

• Tuberculosis:- 10 million new cases of TB and 1.5 million deaths each year. It occurs mostly in children with less than 5 years and adults aged 20-35 years. 95% of death from low and middle income countries.

• Covid-19 :- It is a Viral Respiratory Infection. Older people and those with underlying medical problems are at higher risk of developing serious illness with covid-19.

# Risk Factors :-
– Recent surgery
– Recent cold or flu
– weekend immune system
– more than 65 years
– Less than 5 years

# Causes:-
– Tobacco smoke
– Dust
– Chemicals
– Vapors and fumes
– Allergens
-Air pollution

#Complications:-
– Congenital Heart Failure
– Respiratory Failure
– Respiratory arrest
– Sepsis
– Lung abscesses

# Prevention:-

-Washing their hands frequently.
– Avoiding touching the face with unwashed hands.
-Staying away from people with repiratory symptoms.
-Cleaning and disinfecting surfaces regularly.
-Getting a flu shot every year.
– Avoiding known irritants such as chemicals,fumes and tobacco.

# Treatment :-
– Over the counter medication for a cough or fever.
– Plenty of rest
– Drinking plenty of fluids

In some cases Antibiotics,breathing treatment such as inhaler is prescribed to patients.
